Region 6 ECOs from Herkimer and Oneida counties worked with sportsman volunteers to conduct their annual Youth Turkey Hunt. Twelve young hunters participated in the event which included a safety seminar which was conducted at the Cassety Hollow Rod and Gun Club. Accompanied by their ECO or sportsman mentors, four of the hunters harvested birds during the two day hunt. Other hunters had action, but failed to connect with their birds.
Twelve year old Daniel McGahey of Oneida county shot his first turkey while hunting with ECO Corey Schoonover and Oneida County deputy Jon Ford. The turkey was the largest taken, weighing in at 24 pounds and sporting an eleven inch beard and one inch spurs.
